introductions
i just accidentally deleted everything i typed before.. time to start again. not sure why i pressed "back" instead of "publish", but here we are. good morning :] this is my first [official] post, wherein i will introduce myself, my interests and perhaps some first thoughts about this blog.
myself
i'm my same old me.... [edit: initially, i had a little bit here about myself as if i was introducing myself to strangers, then i remembered no one is going to read this except people that know me, so it felt weird.]
small facts:
- the way in which people present themselves to others, how they talk and dress, etc.. is very interesting to me.
- recently i made a banana mug cake.
- i am interested in the relationship between one's handwriting and the academic subjects they enjoy.
- cats.... they are little animals..... they are lovely things.
interests
here is what you will usually hear me talk about. not an exhaustive list, my mind tends to go to far away places.
islam - my main interest. i will likely talk about various aspects of the deen. i could not possibly list every sub-topic that i will write about since there's so much to say but i tend to like thinking about the Qur'an, prophetic character, and [recently] the political aspects of islam1 and the impact of secularism on the western muslim community.2
tech - what i'm studying (compsci)! my interest tends to lie in programming, web design and disassociating myself from mainstream social media and the large tech companies. this also may include my studying experiences, and probably just general tech talk.
self improvement - i like to live a good quality of life. this may include talking about digital minimalism, intentionality in.. everything, friendships, balancing work and rest, etc etc
lifestyle - i'm probably going to ramble about something mundane at some point. i imagine this includes hobbies, recent experiences, just fun little things i'd like to share.
reading - i've recently not read a lot of fiction, however i may talk about it from time to time as it still interests me. i'd like to veer myself towards more non-fiction and islamic books so as to benefit the most from them...
creative writing - i usually don't talk about my writing publicly, but it does garner a lot of thoughts up in me, so who knows?...
the human condition - if i may put it so poetically. i just like observing things in others/myself, and sometimes i am extraordinarily emotional, so i may talk about abstract things such as friendship, loneliness, love.. and the like.
thoughts about blog
the last time i had a semi-public online presence did not end well for me, so i suppose i will be (in shaa Allah) keeping this for my eyes only and perhaps the eyes of a few friends if i ever reach out about this. this is mostly a place for me to dump my thoughts more than a place for me to connect with others i don't know yet, and in shaa Allah it will stay that way... i don't like the idea of having this place public for several reasons, so for now i'll just keep it to myself.
i am wondering how long i will keep this up. for now, this is novel and so it is at the forefront of my mind. as days go by, i don't know what will happen to here... i've finished tinkering with the css for now3 and i'm now trying to ignore the imperfections and just focus on actually using this place to write things down. if this place is short-lived, so are many other "phases" of my life so it's alright. alhamdulillah. but if it's not, then.. hello, future me, you're probably reading this with much more blogging experience than i have right now. what's it like? am i sounding "cringe" right now because i'm you but younger?
some (me) will wonder: why not just use a physical journal? ah, you see... this is novel and new, so i think it will spur me on to write more. i also think there's a certain barrier to a physical journal that online spaces don't usually have for me, so it's easier to talk about whatever it is i wanted to note down without the constant "i should write this down" in my head. however, if using a screen instead of a paper does inflict significant (terrible) effect to me.. i will.. perhaps looking into physical journalling instead. it does feel more private to write things down with a pen. but typing is nice too.
for now, i think that's me done. i need to eat breakfast now. so.. see you soon, in shaa Allah :]
footnotes:
such as the work of imam tom facchine, and his explanations on statecraft / hallaq et al↩
note: my blog posts will frequently have little phrases punctuating my words as i don't want to filter myself out for an invisible non-muslim audience....↩
it's still not perfect but when was i ever perfect? (i just wanted to try using a footnote. they seem to me like the less flow-intrusive, blog versions of my many brackets in between sentences, so i got excited about them earlier.) (edit: i added more footnotes to avoid having a bulky bullet point)↩
